London: The Department of Work and Pensions just dropped some good news! They’re extending Cold Weather Payments to 160 more postcode areas. This means that many households will get a little extra help this winter.

These payments will cover places like the Home Counties, Norfolk, Essex, and even parts of Sussex. Around 170,000 low-income households will receive £25 to help with heating costs. That’s a nice boost for those feeling the chill!

Interestingly, while payments are being triggered in various areas, Heathrow hasn’t hit the cold threshold yet. If it did, about 577,000 households in Greater London could have qualified for a payment, costing the government a hefty £14.4 million.

In Cumbria, 4,000 households are set to receive their third payment of the winter, thanks to the ongoing cold spells. They’ll get £75 total to help with heating bills, which is great news for them!

If you’re wondering whether your postcode is on the list, you can check it out using an interactive map. It’s super handy!

So, if you’re in one of the newly added areas, keep an eye out for that payment. It’s a little relief during these chilly months!
