Paul Danan’s past struggles with addiction led him to create a theatre company in Bristol, aiming to help others facing similar challenges.

Bristol: Paul Danan, known for his roles in Hollyoaks and reality TV, recently shared how his battle with addiction inspired him to start a theatre company. Sadly, he passed away at 46, but his vision lives on.
His management confirmed the news, stating he was found deceased in Brislington. The police reported that his death isn’t suspicious, and they’re preparing a file for the coroner.
In a past interview, Danan opened up about feeling neglected during his time on reality shows while struggling with addiction. He had big dreams for his theatre company, The Morning After Theatre Company, aimed at helping others in similar situations.
Danan reminisced about his fun times on shows like Calum, Fran and Dangerous Danan, where he traveled across Route 66. He also reflected on how different Love Island was back in the day, with contestants left to their own devices.
He faced the darker side of reality TV too. After appearing on Celebrity Big Brother, he revealed on Jeremy Kyle that he had been to rehab 17 times. He expressed how people often overlook addiction, saying, “You break your arm, people care about you.”
Continuing his recovery in Bristol, he worked at a rehab center and found a sense of belonging in the city. He wanted to create a space for those struggling with addiction through his theatre company.
In 2020, he pitched his idea to DHI, who supported him. During lockdown, he started the theatre company virtually, recognizing the need for connection during isolation.
Now that things are opening up, he’s eager to take the theatre company to recovery festivals and prisons. He’s also raising funds through a JustGiving page to keep the project alive.
Besides the theatre, Danan was busy writing an autobiography and working on a Netflix project called The Urge, inspired by his rehab experiences. He aimed to create a black comedy that resonates with his journey.
