Doncaster: UK households are about to get a boost with a new £225 Cost of Living payment. This is part of the Labour Party’s effort to help those in need. The money will go straight into bank accounts, making it easier for families to manage their expenses.

The aim is to help with essentials like food and energy bills. Doncaster Council is stepping up by offering one-off payments to households that qualify. If you receive Housing Benefit, Universal Credit, or free school meals, you might be eligible.

Interestingly, Bristol City Council decided against a blanket payment for residents. They did get an extra £4 million, but it’s not going to everyone. Instead, Doncaster is focusing on those who apply and meet the criteria.

For families, the payments vary. Childless households can get £75, while those with one or two kids can receive £150. If you have three or more children, you’ll get the full £225. There’s also support for those on Pension Credit.

Doncaster is also setting aside funds for local food banks, which is a nice touch. If there’s any leftover budget, it will help the Local Assistance Scheme next year. The council has made it clear that most eligible households will get the payment automatically, so no need to stress about applying.

But if your bank details change, you need to let them know right away. Just shoot them an email with your info. If you didn’t get a payment last time but think you qualify, you’ll need to apply online. The application opened on December 5, 2024, and will close on February 28, 2025, unless the funds run out sooner.
