London: So, Love Island is back, and a new group of contestants is diving into the villa for another chance at love. This season features familiar faces like Gabby Allen, Curtis Pritchard, and Kaz Crossley.

If you’re a fan, you know there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes. From chats about the outside world to the smoking area, we don’t see everything that happens in the villa.

One thing that’s often overlooked is mealtime. While the contestants whip up breakfast and snack on goodies, we rarely see them making or enjoying lunch or dinner unless it’s part of a challenge.

That’s because there’s a catering station set up in the villa. Chefs are on hand to prepare the main meals, and the islanders often enjoy salads and barbecued meats like burgers and ribs.

When it comes to meals, we mostly catch glimpses of breakfast and snacks. Contestants with allergies or special diets are also taken care of. For instance, Afia Tonkmor, a vegan allergic to fish, got her own meals in separate containers.

They even have Meat-Free Mondays and Sunday dinners, and past contestants have mentioned that takeaways are allowed on certain nights. Plus, there’s a cupboard in the kitchen where they can request specific snacks.

While some islanders rave about the food, others aren’t as thrilled. Chyna Mills once shared on Instagram that she lost weight in the villa because she didn’t enjoy the meals.

She said, “I barely ate in the villa, hence why I lost so much weight. Some nights were alright, but lunch was terrible. It’s sad, but I’m getting my appetite back now.”

Meals aren’t filmed because that’s considered downtime for the contestants. They’re usually on camera all day, so mealtimes are a break. During these times, the production crew often shares important notices, like laundry day, according to ex-contestant Olivia Attwood.
