London: An A&E doctor is sounding the alarm about three signs you shouldn’t ignore when you visit the loo. These symptoms could point to bowel cancer, which is a serious concern in the UK.
According to Cancer Research UK, bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the country, with over 44,000 new cases each year. It’s also the second leading cause of cancer deaths, taking around 16,800 lives annually. So, knowing the warning signs is super important.
Dr. Suraj Kukadia, known as Dr. Sooj on TikTok, shared this vital info with his followers. He pointed out three symptoms to watch for: pain during bowel movements, blood in the toilet water, and blood mixed in your stool.
He explained to his audience of over five million that if you notice these signs, it’s time to see a doctor. Sure, it could be something less serious like hemorrhoids or a small tear, but it could also be something more serious like bowel cancer.
Dr. Sooj emphasized that while these symptoms can be alarming, they don’t automatically mean you have cancer. There are various reasons for these signs, and it’s crucial to get checked out. He said, “You need to see a doctor because we can take a history, examine you, and figure out what’s going on.”
In many cases, the issue could be easily treatable. If it’s due to hemorrhoids or a small tear, it might just be a matter of staying hydrated and increasing your fiber intake. But if it’s something like inflammatory bowel disease, there are treatments available.
He urged everyone to take these symptoms seriously. The NHS lists several signs of bowel cancer, including changes in your stool, blood in your poo, and unexplained weight loss. If you notice any of these for three weeks or more, it’s time to see your GP.
