Stoke-on-Trent City Council plans to convert vacant market stalls into a family hub. This initiative aims to provide essential services and activities for families in the community.
Stoke-on-Trent: The council is looking to breathe new life into empty stalls at Hanley Indoor Market. They want to turn these vacant spaces into a family-friendly hub.
With £3.5 million from the government, the council is creating family hubs across the city. These hubs will gather various services in one spot, making it easier for families to get help.
They’ve applied to convert seven empty stalls into activity rooms and drop-in spaces. Plus, they plan to upgrade the nearby soft play area, making it more fun for kids.
The idea is to create a “one stop shop” for families. This means parents can find advice and support all in one place, from parenting classes to toddler groups.
Council officers believe this project won’t need a full planning application. They think it will enhance the market and offer more options for families.
Currently, there are five family hubs in the city, with more on the way. The council hopes these hubs will help reduce the number of children in care.
Councillor Sarah Hill mentioned that this is part of their Family Matter program. They aim to improve services for families and make Hanley Market a better place for everyone.
Markets are important community spots, and this project will strengthen family support while enhancing the market experience. Exciting changes are on the horizon!
