A holiday let in Hollington is being transformed into a one-bedroom home. This decision comes after the property struggled with low occupancy and rising costs.
Hollington: A holiday let is getting a makeover. It’s being turned into a cozy one-bedroom home after struggling to attract guests.
The cottage, known as Daisy’s Cottage, faced low occupancy and high costs. It went from 68% occupancy in 2022 to just 52% in 2024. Profits also took a nosedive, dropping from over £16,000 to just over £4,000.
Tom Wilkinson, representing the owner, explained the situation. He mentioned that the cottage had been on the market as a holiday let for a year with no interest. The council had concerns about losing tourist accommodation, but they ultimately approved the change.
Councillor Lyn Swindlehurst expressed her concerns. She noted that the area isn’t a popular holiday spot. If the cottage remains empty, it won’t help the local economy.
Another councillor, Adam Parkes, agreed. He thought the property would make a lovely home. He questioned whether it was fair to keep an unprofitable business running.
In the end, the council decided to allow the transformation. It seems like a win-win for the community and the owner.
