A recent survey by Which? highlights the energy firms failing their customers, with British Gas and Ovo Energy among the worst performers.

London: So, there’s this report from Which? that’s got everyone talking. They’ve just dropped their annual survey on energy providers, and it’s a bit of a mixed bag. Octopus Energy, Utility Warehouse, and 100Green are shining stars, while British Gas, Scottish Power, and Ovo Energy are really struggling.
They based their findings on feedback from nearly 12,000 customers and looked at how 16 companies operate. The results? The worst firms, like British Gas and Ovo, scored below 60%. Ouch!
British Gas didn’t do so hot, getting only two stars for customer service and a score of 61% overall. And when it comes to value for money, they were also lagging behind.
They had a ton of customer complaints in the first half of 2024 and didn’t handle them well either. Plus, they missed the mark on smart meter targets. Not great, right?
Ovo, the third-largest energy provider in the UK, got the lowest customer score at 56%. Customers weren’t happy with their value for money or communication.
So Energy did a bit better, scoring 63% for customer satisfaction, but they still fell short on smart meter targets and had limited support outside of business hours.
On the flip side, Octopus Energy scored the highest at 74%, with almost 90% of customers saying they were satisfied. They nailed customer support, which is a big win.
Utility Warehouse and 100Green also did well, scoring 73% and 70%, respectively. Emily Seymour, the energy editor at Which?, said it’s unacceptable for some firms to let their customers down, especially since energy is such a crucial service.
She also mentioned that if you’re not happy with your energy provider, it might be time to shop around for a better deal. Sounds like solid advice!
