Stoke-on-Trent: Bjorn Miller has turned his life around through running. After facing addiction, he started the Lionhearts Running Club to help others like him.

At 44, Bjorn is a painter and decorator. He struggled with addiction for years. But now, he’s found purpose in helping others. The club has grown quickly, with 50 members already.

Bjorn shared his story, saying he was once at death’s door. He felt hopeless and didn’t want to live anymore. But after a year of sobriety, he relapsed. His sister encouraged him to run, and it changed everything.

Running helped him heal, and he wanted to share that with others. So, he and his sister started the club for anyone dealing with mental health or addiction issues. They reached out to their network, and the response was amazing.

Now, they meet at Dimensions Leisure Centre in Tunstall. Bjorn is thrilled to see the community grow. He’s created a WhatsApp group where members connect and support each other.

Bjorn believes in the power of community. He wants to help others find the same support he had from his family. Many members have told him they’ve never felt such encouragement before.

Looking ahead, Bjorn plans to launch a unique 12-step program called Run to Recovery. It’s based on what worked for him, focusing on community rather than traditional methods.

He’s also teamed up with Abbie Putstkowski, a forensic psychologist. She’ll provide mental health support to club members. Abbie understands the struggles of addiction and wants to help others heal.

Together, they’re building a program that includes running, crossfit, and hikes. It’s all about creating a supportive environment for recovery.

Bjorn is excited about the future. He has big plans for the club, including charity events to raise awareness. Membership is free, and he encourages anyone interested to join.
