Newcastle-under-Lyme: Ross Wilson is pretty upset about a tree near his home. He’s lived on Myott Avenue for 14 years, and this tree is causing him a lot of trouble.

He says it hasn’t been pruned since 2019, and now it’s damaging his house. Cracks have started to show up in his bay window, and they’re getting worse. Ross thought it might be a foundation issue, so he started digging.

Guess what? He found a huge root, about eight or nine inches wide, right under his foundation. That’s not good news for his home. He had to go through his insurance, but he’s worried about the £1,300 excess he’ll have to pay.

Ross had a company come out to check things out. They did surveys and soil samples, and confirmed that the tree is the culprit behind the damage. He’s really stressed because he can’t even re-mortgage his house now.

It’s been a tough 18 months for him. The cracks are getting bigger, and he feels like his property is falling apart. Staffordshire County Council is now looking into his complaint.

Councillor Mark Deaville mentioned they’re aware of the situation and are investigating. They want to figure out if the tree is the council’s responsibility. They’ve done some pruning in the area before, but it seems like more needs to be done.

Ross just wants his home fixed and to stop worrying about money. It’s a tough spot to be in, and he’s hoping for a quick resolution.
